Narrative Description of Project:

The objectives of the project were to identify the areas of land sliding on main highways of Northern Areas of Pakistan and mapping the same over satellite imagery through GPS. The maps generate as a result of GPS based field surveys were overlaid on meteorological data sets to ascertain correlation between precipitation and land sliding on steep slopes along the roadside. The major outcome of the study was development of GIS based system for automated recording, reporting and disseminating information of land sliding in time among various stakeholders over GSM network.

  • Collection of landslide location data through GPS.
  • Collection of attribute datasets from field.
  • GIS Dataset development
  • Overlaying GPS Data on High-resolution satellite imagery for developing correlation modeling.
  • Development of GIS and its customization.
  • Collection of meteorological data from concerned organization and development of a relationship between road disaster and rainfall;
  • Identification of sections of roads vulnerable to landslide during particular weather conditions
  • Development of a mechanism for sharing of road disaster data and information with various road operators and users.
  • Development of Training Manuals
