Narrative Description of Project:

Government of Sindh decided to improve and convert national highway (N-5) road between Karachi and Thatta (49 KM) into a dual carriageway. For this purpose the Works and Services Department in Collaboration with Public Private Partnership (PPP) Unit, launched this project on BOT model through Public Private Partnership. The total expected cost of the project iwas PKR 8 billion.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:

For this project the following was the scope of work and activities for Exponent Engineers:
  • Structural Design and Construction Supervision of 49 KM road (Typical Cross Section: 2+2 Lane), with 16 Bridges and 60 Culverts with QA/QC support
  • Conducting road asset inventory survey to establish level of repair needed for existing bridges.
  • Conducting road inventory surveys to assess level of rehabilitation required in each road section.
  • Coordination with the Client and utilities departments
  • Procurement and Georeferencing of Satellite Imagery for planning and design
  • Topographic survey with field inventory of utilities and structures
  • Video logging of the complete route to assist planning works
  • Geotechnical and soil investigation works
  • Pavement evaluation and analysis
  • Traffic survey, planning and management
  • Condition surveys for existing bridges and culverts
  • Pavement analysis and design strategy development
  • Geometric design of roads and ancillary facilities
  • Structural design of bridges (19 bridges) and culverts
  • Hydrology design of Roads and Structures
  • Design of service buildings and their services
  • Preparation of road & bridge maintenance manual defining protocols for bridge & road maintenance for concessionaire.
  • Construction supervision with QA/QC support
