The GOS has signed a loan agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for detailed, operation plan and marketing plan for BRT Red Line Project. The BRT Red Line is proposed in JICA KTIP 2030 study as BRT line along University Road starting from Malir Cantonment. The project is conceived by ADB in the following two stages phase:
1. First phase [to be designed and implemented in priority in the next 3 years]: Red Line as per JICA’s Master-Plan, with additional (i) extension into the city-center on M.A. Jinnah road until Tower; and (ii) 3-km branch on Shahrah-E-Qaideen. This 28-km BRT corridor will have 54 stations.
2. Second phase [to be considered after the implementation of the first phase, depending on the status of the KCR Project]: An additional 18-km BRT section on Shahrah-E-Faisal from Shahrah- E-Qaideen to Landhi road, including 33 stations.
