Environmental Assessment of Nokkundi Iron Ore Mine Project
Narrative Description of Project: The Chigendik and Pachinkoh Iron are deposits are located in the West of Pakistan in the Balochistan province in Chagai district. The site is in remotes of Chagai district and without any water resources. The general idea is to explore the shallow ore bodies at Chigendik and Pachinkoh which has an estimated reserve of 2.22 and 3.23 million tons of iron ore respectively.
An IEE study has extensively considered all the relevant clauses and sections of national legislations, regulations and guidelines related to the project was considered. The recommendations would be given on the basis of project activities.
Description of Services Provided: Basic services included: To assess the existing environmental and socioeconomic conditions at and around the project site, particularly identify any environmental and social sensitivity areas; to identify the likely impacts of the proposed project on the natural and socioeconomic environment, predict and evaluate these quantitatively wherever possible and determine their significance in the light of technical, and regulatory concerns a public meeting were arranged to address the issues of stakeholders in particular to the project,; conducted the socio-economic survey of the area, to propose appropriate mitigation and monitoring measures that can be incorporated into the design of the proposed activities to minimize any damaging effects or lasting negative consequences; to prepare an EMP identifying the procedure for implementation of the mitigations measures, monitoring of environmental conditions and management of solid wastes; and to prepare an IEE report in compliance with the legislative requirement of Pakistan EP Act 1997 for submission to the respective regional EPA.
