Bahria Town (Pvt.) Limited has offered an unsolicited proposal to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for complete financing and operations of one of most travelled mass transit corridors in Karachi. The corridor was identified as the most travelled corridor for mass transit system by JICA in their study named Karachi Transportation Improvement Project (KTIP) 2030. The JICA study identified a potential of 27,000 persons per hour per direction along this route, which commences from M. W. Tower and terminates at Sohrab Goth. JICA identified this corridor for Rail Based Mass Transit System however they recommended that system might initially be developed as Bus Based System convertible to Rail Based system in future. The mass transit corridor was named Blue Line by JICA KTIP study.

Bahria Town (Pvt.) Limited soon after commencement of Bahria Town Karachi Project announced launching of BRT Service connecting Bahria Town, which is 27 km from Sohrab Goth along existing M-9 to Karachi’s City Centre. Bahria Town therefore offered complete financing and operations along Blue Line Corridor with its extension from Sohrab Goth to Bahria Town. The expected cost of the project was estimated to PKR 30 billion (USD 289 million).
