Peshawar Sustainable Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Project – Package 3 : Operational Design and Business Model (ODBM)

City Development Initiative for Asia CDIA undertook an Urban Transport Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) in May 2014. This technical assistance developed a 20-year urban transport strategy with a 10-year action plan. Based on available data and generic estimates, the PFS finally recommends the development of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on corridor 2 (GT Road from Chamkani to Karkhano) as the most viable option and priority investment under the action plan. The total length of the proposed BRT corridor is 27 km, with an at-grade section of 23 km and an elevated section of 4 km. 27 BRT stations will be constructed, with an average distance of 964 meters between stations. The Government of Pakistan and GoKP requested ADB to provide a Project Design Advance (PDA) to conduct detailed engineering design and assist in the procurement of civil works and equipment, ahead of ADB’s Project Loan expected in 2017. The total project cost of a full “façade-to-façade” reconfiguration of the 27-km BRT corridor [Phase 1], together with associated infrastructure, could cost up to $200 million. GoKP will provide 15% of the total project cost, to cover mainly for taxes and duties, and for land acquisition and resettlement costs.
