Narrative Description of Project:

Commercial Centre, Jeddah is located within the Central Business District (CBD) of Jeddah (Al Balad). The proposed building is surrounded with shops and buildings having high commercial activities. The area remains heavily crowded people and local traffic of Jeddah city and visitors from other cities and countries. The area is considered as among most visited areas in entire Jeddah. The proposed building is situated at the T-Junction of Al Malik Abdul Aziz Street and Salah Ad Din Street near STC Al Balad Compound. The building has its 2-lane entrance situated at this intersection. However building traffic exit was planned on Banajah Street. The building itself also comprises primarily of shopping center along with a convention center and exhibition hall.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Our Staff within the Assignment:

The services of Exponent Engineers were hired for the following tasks:
  • Parking Requirements:
    • Estimation of number and characteristics of parking required by each proposed land use during respective peak hour based on surveys conducted on similar land uses in Jeddah and historic data gathered from other studies on various land uses.
    • Validation of peak parking requirements as per design provided by client.
  • Trip Generation/Attraction:
    • Estimation of number and characteristics of trips generated / attracted by each proposed land use during respective peak hour based on surveys conducted on similar land uses in Jeddah and historic data gathered from other studies on various land uses.
    • Validation of peak trip estimations as per provided by client.
  • Projection of Traffic Volume on Roads in Project Vicinity:
    • Enumeration of representative traffic volumes for each road in project vicinity for a typical weekday and weekend.
    • Estimation of LoS in without and with Project Scenarios.
  • Lane Requirement for Major Roads in Project Vicinity:
    • Enumeration of operational requirements in terms of number of lanes on each major material in project vicinity along with circulation plan especially during peak hours.
    • Recommendations for better traffic circulation around project area and better interaction between entering and leaving vehicles to & from project to existing road in project vicinity.
  • Access & Egress Analysis for Critical Areas:
    • Study traffic circulation around major developments and major intersections during peak hour using detailed micro modeling on Vissim.
    • Analysis of queuing and delay estimations on critical areas during peak hour.
    • Recommendations for betterment of circulation.
